Just out of interest I looked on ebay to see if there were any copies for sale on there. There are a lot of issues 1 and 2, including an issue 1 which has 5 bids on it, the leader at the moment being £9.05!

I noticed that, also the guy selling Issue 2 for BIN £12 + 2.50 P&p

Has anybody tried the squares yet. I started the red square and think I've got the hang of those wretched turning chains. I had a bit of a practice on some spare wool on that second square with the shells. I'm going to look out for that Reader's digest book. I think I had a copy once but it's either in the loft in a box somewhere which means it will never be seen again!! Or given away years ago. It was a very thick book if I remember rightly. I bought that Happy Hooker crochet book but it confused me with the American names for stitches. Double crochet is single crochet in the US. And I don't need any more confusion!!

It's 100% acrylic Alison - 25g dark red and 16g of a sort of khaki. Does that make it sound exciting enough?

I think it should be out this week sometime. By Friday anyway. But not sure. I'm going to get the first ten or so and then I hope I will have all the basic stitches.

Today the postman delivered issue 1 to my door  Thank you Gail!!
I started right away and already have used up all the "vanilla" yarn in double crochet. I do know the most basic stitches already, but always had a problem with counting them at crochet. Must say it all has become clearer using this first issue.

I've found the magazine really helpful too, I like the photos-so much easier for me to understand than drawn diagrams! I'm going to pick and choose which ones I get though, £3.99 a week is a tad expensive in my eyes for a magazine, when there are heaps of excellent resources on line- I'm thinking of this lovely forum and Lucy of Attic 24 particularly!

I think it's quite good too. And clear instructions. And I think it's only going to be £2.99. It's still not cheap but I'm going to get it for the time being because I think it's very useful for beginners.

Well my SIL was really pleased with the copies I sent her and I wanted to buy some more of them for her b'day but as I'm pretty sure WHSmiths won't stock these after issue 4 I will now rethink my plan especially seeing it takes 28 days to cancel.
