You are posting your scard to the person below you and you need to PM your address to the person above you.
To summarise - you cast on sufficient stitches for a scarf in your chosen yarn and knit 6 inches in your desired pattern. This will ensure that your final scarf will be long enough to fold in half and knot around your neck. Bear in mind that you may want to include a border of garter stitch/moss stitch to prevent the edges of the scarf from curling up like a sausage roll - this may be a problem if some sections are knitted in a stocking stitch based pattern. Just 2-3 stitches on either side of the main panel will usually be enough to stop this happening.
Once you have completed approximately six inches, slide the stitches onto a holder or waste yarn and post it to the person below you in the list (Kharma2815 will post to Rubyslippers).
It is up to you how you choose to get each participant to record their own involvement in your scarf. You can either include a little inexpensive notebook so that each knitter can add details of where they are, yarn/pattern used, what they watched while knitting it, any other random info, or you can ask each knitter to add a little postcard from their own neck of the woods, with the info on it. It is also left up to you, how specific your requirements are for your scarf. I think we are agreed on having no eyelash/fun fur yarn, but good quality acrylic is fine. You may choose to specify a colour theme, general style - ie lace/chunky/bright stripes - the choice is yours.
Feel free to cast on today and our first deadline for postage will be
Monday 8th March. As with any project, communication is key and no-one will be hung, drawn and quartered for missing a deadline. The important thing, is to let us know if anyone is having problems with other committments, finding suitable yarn etc. I know that life sometimes gets in the way of knitting (heaven forbid) but we do need to have a deadline to work to, otherwise the Travelling Scarf may become the Time-Travelling Scarf and disappear into a different dimension.
Ladies: on your marks, get set,
