Finished this yesterday! It's been hibernating in the bottom of 'one' of my knitting bags!! I started it in the summer last year, around the time my Grandma was falling ill, couldn't bring myself to finish it when she died in August - I know she would've loved it. Anyway, I was having a bit of a rummage and came across it and thought I would attempt to complete it. After a few false starts - frogging several rounds, several times I finally finished it yesterday evening. It measures 12" across, and it's going to take pride of place in the middle of our dining room table. It's blocking at the moment because it came out a bit ruffled, but overall I'm really pleased with it and won't shy away from the more intricate patterns again. The pattern was a free one from good ol' Ravelry Petite Pineapple Doily

Hey you talented lady! Wow at the crochet skills you have  It's a beautiful doily, and you Grandma would be pleased with it. She's probably looking down, admiring it, and pleased you've finished it. It looks well worth the effort and heartache.

It's beautiful.

I might see if I've got enough crochet cotton to have an attempt at this as well :)

That's beautiful & worth all the hard work.

I still have some that were done by my late MIL & think of her every time I look at one.

Thanks for all your lovely comments everyone, I'm blushing here

Christine, I used 4 ply cotton for this one, that's why it's come out bigger than the pattern suggests. I suppose any weight would work, just as long as you go up accordingly with the size of crochet hook.

When I started this one and showed my Mum what I was doing she brought out some very old doilies that my Great Grandma had done many years ago. I never even knew that she did crochet (she knitted socks too!), I must've inherited the skill from her.
