I've just weighed my Attic bag and it's 382g, including 4 plastic buttons, so that's 8 balls, but I used a 3mm hook, so if you're using a bigger hook, you'll need more yarn, or to make the bag smaller (the base of my bag is 28cm in diameter and the sides are 26cm high, without the scalloped edging (each row is 1cm high). I think I did an initial chain of 110 for each of the handles, and did 8 rows of double crochet (English terms).

I haven't washed it yet as I've been using it as a project bag for a cardigan I've started, but now you've reminded me and I've measured it, I'll go and put it on a 30C quick wash now and let you know if the dimensions change afterwards :D

Thank you for the reply.

I have not started yet as I was still debating which size hook to use, but at least I know that I have enough magicline to complete a whole bag!

I will be interested to hear how your bag is affected by the washing process.. Are there any pictures of your bag posted yet? How many different colours did you use for your bag?

Thanks for your help.

I can hear it sloshing around the machine as I type! I just used one colourway of the Magicline as it was variegated (the red, orange and cream) and made a flower in the same yarn to cover each place where I'd joined the straps, then put a button in the middle of each flower.

I haven't posted a picture of the bag yet as I've put my camera in A Safe Place (i.e. I can't remember where I've put it!). I'm very behind on taking photos of my projects, so I'll have to search it out and have a day of (bad) photo-taking.

Sorry it took me so long to reply - I was PC-less for 10 days :(

Glad to hear you have your PC back - it is only when you can't go on line that you realise how much you do!

I am planning on only using one type of magicline. It is a stripy one in browns, orange, cream, coral and pinky shades. I think that willl be enough contrasts too.

Fingers crossed that you find your camera soon!

I was wondering how the washing machine affected your bag. Did it shrink significantly?

I have started mine now

Sorry - I meant to reply, but got sidetracked (probably by children) and then forgot.

It shrank a little bit, but not much. If you're going to line your bag, I'd recommend washing it first though, just in case :) It took ages to dry in the tumble dryer though, but it's quite a dense fabric (and I still haven't lined it yet).

My WIPs are now down to:

- Burridge Lake aran afghan

- Child's Surprise Jacket (gone off this a bit - it's not the wide rows of garter stitch, but I'm making it as a school cardigan for DD1 and it's just endless royal blue acrylic!)

- February 'Girl' Sweater but without the lace stitch on the body and sleeves. I've done the yoke, a few inches of the body and the sleeves, so it's a case of stocking stitching down the body until it's the length DD1 wants. It's another acrylic project, but Hayfield Bonus DK Fantasy, so variegated yarn --- and very pink :D

- Skew socks. I haven't picked these up for a couple of days as my Dad's in hospital and I'm not in the right frame of mind (i.e. stressed and knackered) to concentrate on the technicalities of the pattern. I'm liking making these though.

I've also got my mitred square sock yarn blanket which is an on-going project until I decide it's big enough to stop and add a border! It's a WIP I keep upstairs and work on at odd moments and when DD2 is in the bath!

I want to cast on something new in a nice yarn, so would someone please tell me it's ok to start an Ulmus rectangle scarf/shawl ( http://throughtheloops.typepad.com/desi ... ulmus.html ) using the Fyberspates Unicorn yarn I bought (it's 70% llama, 10% cashmere and 20% silk). The colourways I'm going to mix are 'Autumn', which has short repeats of plum, green, purple, ochre, magenta and 'Pumpkin', which is a slightly rusty orange. Pretty please (I've already bought the pattern!)

1 sirdar aran tank top about 15 inches done
1 sirdar yo yo cardi 1 sleeve to finsh
1 basket stich cardi to complete band
1 lacy cardi to complete band
1 stylecraft twirl toddler cardi to finish bands and neck ( i have been waiting for some wool to finish this, excuse as i have has the extra ball for a least a week)

I was going to finish the twirl cardi and sew up the tank top tonight as they are for my nephew and i was going to get buttons and drop them off over the weekend,

but i decided to go on the computer and log all the meterage of all the manufacturers out of the Knitwell book so i have a database for future reference and i can dispose of the books, because the amount of wool and patterns i have is taking up an awful lot of room, i had a large loft in my old house where i kept everything.

I intend to complete all my wip's before we start going to the caravan the end of march.

Well done on finishing some of those WIP's!! I currently am being very good and have only two WIP's - a pink clanger, and half a sock to complete to make a pair! We are going away for a week shortly though so I need to have something substantial on my needles for that. There is plenty of stuff "in the queue" but what to start first? ....... decisions decisions

hi Chris

I will be starting to go to our caravan this weekend, so hopefully will get the last of my WIP's finished over the next couple of weekend.

I have sorted through my patterns and have about 20 that i want to knit out of my stash over the summer, just needs to sort the needles and yarn out, We are just staying on our caravan site for our main holiday this year, so i will be able to take quite a bit or yarn up and not have to empty it later,

I have been very good this year so far and have not purchased any wool to add to my stash, i can't see it lasting as there is a nice wool shop in Dumfries and Carlisle which i think i will be visting this weekend and easter weekend.
