I have quite a collection of knitting books and I love browsing them. They range from the good, the bad and the ugly.

I was just looking through a book from 1982 and I have found a great top (well hopefully great). It is made in lurex and angora! I will be swapping the wool (lurex with my big boobs would be disastrous) and altering the pattern slightly (it has a pointy hem which is a bit weird).

So bring on the 1980s and see how I get on. :knit:

I've resurrected a pattern from the 80's too - I knitted a sweater for OH about 22/3 years ago, when DS was a barely a baby. OH still wears it!!! I am now knitting the same pattern for DS (he'll be 24 at the end of April) - I noticed that textured knitwear seems to be "in" - this pattern uses three different stitches - lattice, basket and a rib variation. Am hoping to finish it in time for his birthday, but certainly before he joins us for out summer sailing - will be perfect for cool evenings.....I would post a photo, but our digital camera seems to have died. (we changed the batteries and it still didn't switch on....)

Did any of you have that knitting periodical that they used to have? I can't remember the name of it but you bought a magazine and you got so many free pattern cards and they would send you a box file for them. There were some fantastic patterns in them but I do remember some of them as being very outlandish! The batwing sleeves!!!!

Ah memories.... I had several jumpers that had huge batwing sleeves that were made with one big needle and one smaller needle and they knitted up really quickly...
I think I need one to wear when Ashes to Ashes returns soon...

Yes, the batwings! I'm guilty of wearing those, too, but with my built is wasn't that bad of a look.

I have a few pattern books from the eighties as well and it's not just the patterns, it's the whole styling: big fluffy hair, big plastic earrings, acrylic in all colours of the rainbow... Makes me want to drag out all my old music and dance!

I remember those batwing patterns - I knitted most of a jumper one Christmas - DH, MIL and FIL all fell asleep after dinner, and were most surprised when they came to and the garment was almost fiinished!!!!! Happy days :knit:

Bat wings jumpers

With big boobs they make your chest look as though it starts somewhere just above your elbow and ends somewhere just outside Timbuktu.
