Ladies I wonder can someone help me with this pattern please. I am currently knitting a cardigan in Sirdar country style. At the moment I am knitting the sleeves. The pattern consist of eight rows. Working across 53 stitches. Rows 1 and 2 are knit and purl. Row 3 is knit 1 (p2tog leave these sts on left hand needle, yrn purl the same 3 st tog again 1 time)*k5 p3tog leave these sts on left hand needle yrn, purtl the same 3 stgs tog again, rep from * to last 1 st k1. Row 4 is purl 5 is knit 6 is purl and 7 is similar to 3 except you knit 5 knit 3 tog. Row 8 is purl. You have to increase on the 21st row at each end and then every 6th row until there are 71 stitches. Can someone advise me how to incorporate these extra stitches as no matter how I have tried it is doesnt look right to me.

I have to say that my instinct is to go for the easy option. You are only going to increase by a total of 9 stitches on each side over the full length. You'll lose one of those each side in sewing up and the other eight will be close to the seam, out of sight under your arm. I would just do them as a straight st st increase and then keep you pattern start in the same place because the rest really won't show.

But then I am a bit risk averse! Perhaps someone more skilled than me can help with incorporating the pattern which would be a more noble act!

Flissflo thanks for that. Can I just ask would this mean then as these row 3 and row 7 are the right side rows that I would just knit these extra stitches. Sorry for sounding stupid but i'm really confused

Yes, you just knit on the odd rows (RS) and purl on the evens (WS). It is a bit of a cop out but sometimes I think we build ourselves unnecessary hills to climb!
