I purchased Jesien today - I've not printed the charts yet but I'm hoping to start her sometime this week - yippee! I hope it goes well, does anyone have any tips for doily knitting? I'm really excited but I'm sure it probably won't go without any hiccups! Would anyone like to do a doily with me? I just fancy a challenge

I had a look at Jesien and she is very pretty :). What yarn are you going to use - are you going to knit it doily sized or upscale? I know that there is probably lots of Doilies available on Rav, but I faved this website ages ago and it is a good resource. I have yet to knit a doily but I also fancied to knit one after knitting my huge Hemlock Ring Blanket.

I've got Snowflake Peacock ( http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... ke-peacock ) in my Rav queue at number 4 or 5 (I've got several 50g balls of white crochet cotton in my box - bought on a whim in Lidl!). I also made Stor Rund Dug from the Yarnover site that Donna linked to last year, using some of the Lidl cotton and a 2mm circular - it got to the point where I had just over 1,000 stitches per round to knit, so be warned :D

Jesien's very pretty :)

Umm I'm using Lorna's laces Helen's lace which is silk/merino and has 1250 yards - Glenda (doilyhead) told me that she thinks 1200 yards should be fine (on 2.5mm needles). I've printed the pattern off, and am studying the charts. What I don't understand is why the rows vary in size and don't all go outwards - like this:

Instead of this:

If that makes sense?

I checked out the Yarn over site, and I've queued a few from it, including Stor Rund Dug, but in my wisdom (haha), I'm not sure how you get to the patterns on the site - I can only get to the photos.. Christine, what's your Ravelry name? I'd love to have a look at your doily. And Donna I felt the same after the Hemlock - it's that which inspired me I think!

I'm ctw on Ravelry - http://www.ravelry.com/projects/ctw (I keep forgetting to add it into my signature on here). The cotton didn't block particularly well, but it's probably going to be used as a cloth for a small round table (when I get round to buying one!).

Edit: To get to the patterns on Yarn Over, click on the category (Germany 1911, for example) and the pictures show up. If you look on the right of the page, the patterns are then listed underneath the Germany 1911 (etc) heading.

I'm just noseying at your projects christine, you've done some really beautiful things!
My little demonstration didn't work in my previous post :( I'm going to wind up my yarn today, so I might cast on tomorrow if I get this chapter of uni work done today (how's that for incentive!).
