What are your favourite patterns for gifts?

Postby knittingnanny » Fri Mar 20, 2009 5:07 pm

Suggestions please - I've got to get a few Christmas presents started soon

One of my favourites is KateB's "Bertie" scarf.
I have one otn in Kidsilk Spray, and am going to experiment with some other laceweights / needle sizes too, as I think it's really pretty and dressy, not just for warmth.

Coooooeeeee Kate - what's the best link?
Trying to get back on the stashalong!!

Calorimetry is a great one, an easy to size down for little girlie heads

Fetchings are another quickie, to match the headbands if you like!

I haven't made one yet, but I like the look of the Tapestry Garden Scarf http://myafinari.com/nucleus/index.php?itemid=130 (although the pattern's written incorrectly - the row numbers repeat 21 and 22 when the 'closing short rows' should be rows 21-39, then rows 40-45 worked in garter stitch across all stitches on the needles. Could be worked in any yarn, and shouldn't need blocking by the recipient.

I gave away some of these keyrings, which were appreciated. http://www.fluffenstuff.co.uk/wordpress ... eyring.pdf

Amigurumi or similar crocheted small animals and things have gone down well with everyone I've given them too, useful for small quick presents or top ups. Free patterns are easy to find, there are millions, and you can choose ones to suit the recipient.

I don't have specific patterns, but I try to quietly, and without giving anything away, find out what people want or need, then go from there

I fancy making armwarmers for my sisters - the problem is there are HUNDREDS of patterns out there.

I couldn't find the pattern I wanted but have sort-of made my own, adapting a vintage mitten pattern. I'll post pics in the gallery when finished. I may also post pattern on Rav, and if not, I'll post it somewhere on the forum. (I made the first one in a few hours over 2 evenings. I want to finish the other by Monday, when I'll be visiting sis no. 1; this is not really a Christmas Pressie, but a sort of very late thank-you for having me to stay last year!)

well for mothers day and my aunties birthday this weekend I knitted dishcloths in nice colours to use as flannels and gave them with soaps.

I'm also knitting branching out for my mam's birthday in May.

I plan to make a few facecloths for my girls for next christmas. They will each get a few cloths fastened together in a stack with ribbon. I will be knitting in a few colours, cream, burgundy, forest green, french navy and aubergine.
