Disaster!

Postby Woolygreyhound » Mon Jun 28, 2010 4:29 pm

I was very proud of my variegated violet wool, until I took it in from drying on the line. The right hand sock has faded in the sun. I also hung the blue ones on in the line in the sun and there is no change in the colour.

When I dyed the yarn I mixed up the dye and then diluted to get various shades of the same colour. I am not sure if I over diluted as I did not add any more fixing agent or if I did not microwave for long enough. Does anyone have any thoughts on this I usually boil on the stove to set the dye.

So after much soul searching I have decided to over dye tomorrow so please keep fingers crossed the sock doesn’t shrink.

I have just remembered when I dyed this batch I had a hole in my rubber glove and ended up with 1 violet finger for 2 days
