Hard wearing DK

Postby Sunhat lady » Mon Mar 31, 2014 7:46 pm

I'm looking for a decent DK yarn, that will withstand some pretty tough wear from my 2 year old granddaughter. I don't want to spend too much as she's outgrowing things so quickly. I'd like a nice cheerful purple colour. Any suggestions welcome!

Are you happy to use acrylic yarn?
I've knitted a few things for toddlers using Patons Fab wool, it's great to knit with and I've have been told it washes well, the jumper I posted in the knitalong thread was knitted in the aqua colour. My sister is knitting with the clown colour for a little girl and I have to say it's very colourful!
Robin DK is another one I use a lot, lovely colours and washes well.
I splashed out once and bought King Cole Merino wool for a jumper as a gift and the mother left it in a cafe

Thanks for those suggestions. I'm more than happy to knit in acrylic for her. Where do you find the cheapest prices for the yarns you've mentioned please?

I got mine from the loveknitting site, I use them a lot and they have always been great, everything is so well packaged too, the last order of fab wool came in an organza bag! but Deramores stock both wools and I've used them too and had no problems.
The Robin wool I get from a shop in town, it sells 5x100grm balls for £5, they don't stock every colour but as I usually knit for babies or toddlers it's still a bargain, I usually stock up when I go in there
Do you have something in mind to knit for her?

Yes she wants a Hello Kitty cardigan. I've got all the colours apart from the main one.

Decided on this from Deramores http://www.deramores.com/james-c-brett- ... ign=criteo in the purple. 15% off all DK and 5% cashback with Quidco- can't be bad
