Sewing the pieces together query

Postby AnnaH » Sat Jul 01, 2017 5:34 pm

I'm working my way through a James C Brett pattern http://www.blacksheepwools.com/jacket-in-james-c-brett-flutterby-animal-prints.html with a garter stitch border. The hem is six rows of garter stitch with an increase of 3 stitches in the 6th row before starting a stockinette and garter stitch pattern.
When sewn together, I think that the pieces will give me a 'tulip' shape at the bottom of the jacket rather than being straight.

See the image of the left front. Is my cast on too tight?

All comments gratefully received.

Hi Anna and welcome

I think you possibly have cast on a bit too tightly but it might be salvageable if you leave the side seams unsewn from the bottom up to 6-7cm. That way you should avoid the "tulip" look. You could sew on a decorative button where the seam begins.

Hope that helps

Kate

Thanks for the advice Kate. I did buy a spare ball of wool so I might have another go at re-knitting the piece. I found that frogging this yarn needs a lot of care.
If it still doesn't work, then the button idea sounds great.

Best wishes

Anna
