Sorry - another yarn winder question

Ball winders? Stitch Counters? Strange contraptions that look alien but allow you to knit four times as fast? Tell us about them all here.

Sorry - another yarn winder question

Postby mauramac » Thu Jun 28, 2012 4:37 pm

I do apologise as I'm guessing this question may have been asked many times before but I'm in need of an urgent reply if anyone can help please (otherwise I would happily plough through previous posts for the answer).

I have lots of 400g balls of yarn which I purchased from Aldi's and Lidl's when first starting out and I would find it so much easier to take my knitting out with me if I could re-wind it into smaller balls.

Could anyone point me in the right direction for a yarn winder that actually works please. I was tempted to just Google for one and give it a go but then thought of all the experienced knitters on here and thought someone must have done this before and know the good from the bad that's available.

Thanks a million for any help

Mine is an old (second hand) Royal one and it works well.

I have a second-hand Royal, too, picked it up for a few cents (!) at a car boot sale. It does the job very well.
