Pattern help please

Postby sunshine12 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:26 am

I have a beautiful pattern for a baby hat age 6-12 months, using Dk yarn on 3.75mm needles. The finished measurement circumference is 12inches.

My problem is that I want to knit it for a 1-2 year old. Could someone advise me on this, would knitting it on 4mm needles do the trick

There is such a lot of give in knitting and a baby's head will not expand unduly in the period from 6 months to 18 months anyway. Either try out a sample piece of knitting in the pattern given, on 4 mm to see if it's still acceptable and not too slack or go with the pattern as it is and maybe knit a few extra rows before the decreasings. I very much doubt if the circumference of the hat will make it unduly tight on a 1-2 year old

Thank you darknit, commonsense goes a long way, yes of course the baby's head won't have changed much. I have knit a cardigan on 4mm needles and have yarn left over, so I will knit the hat on the 4mm. Thanks for replying.
