Sweet buns

Postby saliha » Fri Sep 29, 2017 4:49 pm

Now I am lazy and use recipe I found:

http://www.dlc.fi/~marian1/gourmet/15_6.htm

But pictures are my own ones.

Sweet bun filled with strawberry jam and whipped cream - traditional at the time of the Shrove Tuesday in Finland. The other traditional food at that day is the pea soup.

Sometimes those cinnamon rolls might come out from the oven with funny looking - like these tasty "slugs".

Love pea soup. Do you add ham to the soup? When I was a chef, I used to cook the soup with a ham hock. The ham was then shredded and added to the soup :boxing: :)

Yep, ham belongs to the traditional recipe of pea soup and specially smoked ham. I sometimes use some other meat too (like reindeer) or make a vegan version (like adding carrots and other root veggies to the soup).

We traditionally eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday - I am of the old school and like them best with just lemon juice and sugar. (Although one or two with a touch of honey doesn't go amiss). All these traditions hark back to using up the foods which would otherwise go bad before the Lenten fast.
