I've got a Furminator comb which I use on my black lab - he sheds all year round and this takes out the undercoat very easily. It works on long-haired dogs as well as short-haired and is quite easily the best brush I've ever used on my dog. Amazon's the best place to get one as they're really expensive everywhere else.
I blog at http://www.winwickmum.co.uk and have created the Sockalong, a series of tutorials to teach beginners how to knit socks

I bought a Furminator and that helped a bit but this year his coat matted so much I could hardly get the brush through it, I have resorted to using a matt splitter and rake, combed every inch out and cut away what I could without making him look ridiculous and he looks much better.
I brush him out in the morning, then after a walk and a quick brush at night, but so far there have been no matting so it seems to be working.
Dominey - He is lovely
