I've done my best to put the thread back together.

This is a list of all of the suppliers of home-grown yarn that I know of. Please feel free to add any useful links :D Bear in mind that not every single yarn these shops sell is British...
Shetland wool
Violet Green
Natual Dye Studio
Aragon yarns
Penzance Wool Shop
Brigantia yarn
UK Alpaca
Cornish Organic Wool
Woolly Shepherd
British Wool
New Lanark Mill
Skeins
Eco Knits
Great British Yarns
World of Wool. British wools are marked with a shepherds crook, so nice and easy to identify.
Garthenor Organic Pure Wool

Happy shopping!

Haven't ordered from them yet, but the British selection looks interesting:

Eco knits were on the original list, but I couldn't open the kink! I'll add both these to the list now :)

ETA: kink? What's a kink? I think I meant link...

The natural fibre company (http://www.thenaturalfibre.co.uk/) say they only sell British if you'd like to add to the list? I have to say, I've never bought from them, only know who they are cos my family sell fleeces to them - will have to ask for some back yarn-shaped one day so I can see what it looks like!! :)

I've also bookmarked World of Wools, although I haven't tried them yet (I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has - the wools come in gorgeous natural colours such as oatmeal).

The site has some good info about different breeds.
