Yes, of course you can Sweetpea - but it will give you different stitch/row numbers. Of course it might get you the right number for your pattern but you won't be able to tell unless you do the dreaded test square! I have just knitted an aran waistcoat with 3.25mm needles when the pattern suggested 5mm. I knit very loosely.

If it were me, I would buy the wool and work with different sized needles until the tension was right.

Well ive just received the wool that im going to make my cardi/jacket with. Its Wendy Pamas mega chunky, a great price as well :smile:
