phildar pure mérinos 5 =10ply? aran?

Postby jon_ferguson2002 » Sun Oct 25, 2015 9:40 am

Hi,
I have a French pattern for a mans sweater. The pattern uses a yarn I can't get hold of any more, so looking for a substitute. The pattern uses 5mm needles, based on the following tension: 18 stitches over 25 rows (to make a 10 cm square)

What UK yarn would I use for this? 10ply? Aran?

Many thanks in advance!
Jon

Try aran. Start with 5mm needles and knit a test square. I like to give my test squares a 3 garter stitch border all the way round as it helps them lie flat. Depending on your tension you may need to go up a size or down a size. Hope I'm not teaching granny (or grandpa) to suck eggs!

Thanks for the tip...and no worries, I'm not a grandpa, and as a newbie to knitting, any tips are welcome!

Thanks,
Jon
