Please help me understand this pattern! Aargh

Postby Dragonkween » Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:05 am

Hi everyone.

I have been a knitter for a few years now and am embarking on my second jumper.

I have got to the sleeves and for the life of me don't understand this part of the pattern.

I have put the bits I need to be following in bold as I am knitting a few sizes up from the standard instructions. It's the "next" bit that has me scratching my head. Next what? I need to increase 14 stitches over the course of the sleeve but have no idea which rows to increase on.

"Striped st st" is 2 rows in one colour and 14 rows in another using stockinette stitch. I will hugely appreciate any help! :omg:

Can anyone translate into English?! X

Cont in striped st st (stockinette st), shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of 3rd [5th: 5th: next: next: 3rd] and
5 [5: 5: 6: 6: 5] foll 8th rows. 73 [75: 77: 79: 81: 81] sts.
Work 7 [5: 5: 1: 1: 7] rows, ending after 2 rows using C and with a ws row.

The pattern means start the increase immediately - on the very next row, then knit 8 rows and increase again. Then you are on your way. Every 8 rows increase again until you have 79 stitches.

Hope that helps.
