Good for you Tony. Don't be downhearted it it doesn't come right, you've already said your yarn might have been part of the problem, so it might not be all your "fault"

Don't forget that

sometimes blocking can even out a huge amount of irregularities so don't judge too harshly until you've blocked.
Those gappy rows are caused by the previous row you've knitted too loosely, not the row that you first see them on, so don't over compensate after the event.
And your good lady will love that you've taken the effort to make something for her, and after all, you've been married long enough for her to accept your imperfections, the knitting is a minor problem.
Have fun, and give me a shout if I can help

I was given a skein of hand dyed sock yarn earlier this year so decided it was time to get back into knitting socks again. Of course I couldn't find my needles so had to buy some more. I bought from Meadow Yarn and got reaĺly good prompt service. (No personal connection, other retailers are available)
The pattern is a simple 4 row repeat and try as I might I can't remember it so I've had to write it out so I can carry my knitting out and about without taking a pattern with me.

Second side of a tea cosy pattern from the 50s, and some dishcloths, which I only work on occasionally. I recently completed a small doll's jumper, based on the fish-and-chip-baby jumper pattern. Unfortunately I can't post a photo 1)because I forgot to take a photo of it before donating it to charity and 2) because my iPad, which I use as a camera, has died.

I have just finished an Aran cardigan for my Gran for Christmas (just waiting for the buttons to be delivered) and I have just started another Christmas present - a unicorn jumper dress for my friends little girl. I am so pleased because I have managed to find suitable yarn in my stash for this, so haven't needed to buy any and add to my ever increasing stash
